All horses are the same colour book design with Rita Davis and Sean Yendrys
Tallinn, 2022

All horses are the same colour is a book edited by Lieven Lahaye including essays by Alexandra Margetic, Carlo Canún, Greta Þorkelsdóttir, Michael Fowler, Mark Foss, Oliver Long, Patrick Zavadskis, and Rita Davis.
All horses are the same colour is a paradox that arises from a method of mathematical induction that erroneously “proves” the statement, making it a result of flawed reasoning. One can also interpret this falsidical paradox as a reminder not to accept everything as true, even if it appears mathematically or scientifically validated. At the same time, the paradox highlights the impossibilities that emerge from the limits of language.

The main concept for the book’s design was to feature a drop cap designed by the corresponding author of each text. This decision turns the project into a collaborative effort and blurs the boundaries of the role of the book’s designer. Each drop cap not only establishes a typographic identity for its text but also serves as a visual interpretation that illustrates the essence of each text.
